Website maintenance with clear tasks and responsibilities

Home / Websites & Digital Experience / Website Maintenance & Support

Discuss ongoing website care, a one-off correction or support for an existing website with DeshTech. A useful maintenance agreement states what is covered, how requests are handled and what happens when a change cannot safely be made immediately.

Discuss Your Project

01 / Service fit

Where this service fits

Maintenance suits businesses that need help keeping an existing site current and usable. It is different from hosting, a new design project or an unlimited development service. Begin with the website condition and the business dependence on it so the support scope reflects the real risk.

02 / Scope

What to plan in the scope

Updates and compatibility

Identify the platform, themes, plugins and licences. Agree how updates are assessed and applied, which checks follow a change and what happens if an extension is no longer maintained.

Backups and restoration

Specify backup responsibility, frequency, retention and storage location. A backup file alone is not proof of a successful restore; restoration arrangements and any included recovery work should be explicit.

Requests and reporting

Define the request channel, included work, support coverage and reporting. Content edits, development, emergency incidents and third-party costs need separate boundaries.

03 / Decisions

Choose the support arrangement you need

Choose between a one-off repair, a scheduled care arrangement and a separate rebuild based on the site condition. Unsupported software or serious legacy problems may require remediation before a recurring plan can begin. Monitoring detects an issue; response and resolution are different commitments.

04 / Delivery

Make maintenance coverage explicit

Start with the platform, dependencies, access and known faults. Your proposal should identify scheduled tasks, the request channel, coverage hours, initial-response targets and escalation ownership. A response acknowledgement, a resolution target and a restore objective are different commitments.

Coverage decisions to record

List the supported platform and extensions; update assessment and post-change checks; backup frequency, retention, location and restore responsibility; any content-edit allowance; monitoring and notification scope; reporting; exclusions; and approval for extra work. Name the provider or client responsible for each part.

Requests, reports and recovery

Agree how a request is submitted, prioritised and escalated, including requests outside the contracted hours. A useful change report records the date, action, affected function, check result and unresolved work. Confirm restore testing and recovery effort rather than treating the existence of a backup as a tested recovery plan.

05 / Budget and responsibilities

What affects the project estimate

Cost depends on platform condition, update frequency, included tasks, monitoring, backup/recovery scope, request volume and coverage. Hosting and licence renewals may sit outside the agreement. Compare hosting, backup and recovery services and confirm allowances, extra-work approval and cancellation terms.

No maintenance plan removes every vulnerability or third-party outage. Support coverage, response targets and restoration objectives must come from the agreed terms. Website management and original website development are separate engagements; review the role attributed to each example.

06 / Get ready

What to bring to the first discussion

Send the current URL, platform if known, hosting/provider details, recent problems and the help you need. Identify existing support arrangements and renewal dates. Credentials should be exchanged privately through the agreed access process.

07 / Experience

Ongoing care and recorded availability

The Eliy Land case documents ongoing maintenance with hosting, domain and business email work. You can also view DeshTech’s recorded website availability. The status tool reports sampled HTTP checks and monitor response times; it does not measure full browser speed or promise an uptime SLA. The maintenance scope for your website is agreed separately.

Questions / Answers

Website Maintenance & Support questions

Does maintenance include hosting?

Only if the agreement explicitly includes it. Hosting infrastructure, website updates and application support can have different providers and responsibilities.

Are content edits included?

The agreement should state the types of edits, any included allowance and approval for extra work. Maintenance should not be described as unlimited design or development.

Can you support an older website?

The site should be assessed first. Unsupported software, missing licences or existing faults may need a separately agreed correction before recurring care begins.

How do we start a discussion?

Send the current website or system context, the business goal and the required functions through the project enquiry. Scope, dependencies, timing and ownership can then be discussed before a proposal is agreed.
